7’s Bokke blitz Kiwis, while Stormers have injury concern

February 10, 2013 in Uncategorized

After $BW got one over the Republic, Paul True’s BlizBokke smashed the Kiwis in the IRB Las Vegas Sevens tournament, by 40-21!

Pleasing to see was the good crowd that attended which is just going to increase in the future building up to Sevens as a 2016 Olympic Sport.

The Kiwis are still on top of the leaderboard with 96 points, 23 ahead of the second placed Bokke.

Eben Etsebeth’s injury he picked up over the weekend, is a huge blow as Estebeth is the new ‘enforcer’ of world rugby. His ankle strain will keep him between 6-8 weeks on the sideline. The bigger picture is maybe more glossy as it means that Estebeth will be ‘fresh’ coming back in to the latter part of the Super15 and will also have good implications for the Bokke as he won’t be overplayed.

Estebeth was a key to the Stormers hectic start with away games vs the Bulls and Sharks and then to play the current champions the week after. The good news is, however, that Rynardt Elstadt was brilliant a few seasons ago, so good that he was an effective counter┬áto the former ‘enforcer’ of world rugby, Mr Bakkies Botha. If Elstadt can channel his aggression he should be part of Heyneke Meyer’s Worlc Cup dreams

  1. And the boxing farce continues: I see that Botha apparently tested positive for a banned substance or two

  2. Although the doping report’s validity is being questioned

  3. Kevin, don’t forget that we’ve acquired the services of Michael Rhodes, who I feel is arguably right up there with the best locks in the country, unlucky to have been plagued by injury.

He would be my choice to replace Etzebeth but I do like the idea of bringing in Elstadt, because we have too many good loose forward options to really cater for them all on the side of the scrum, specially when Schalk returns. – I’d have to say Duane, Siya and Schalk would be my starting trio.

  4. I agree that Michael Rhodes would not let the team down, but Rynardt Elstadt was overal the best and most active forward on the day and he has a lot of previous experiance for this team at lock as Bekkers partner, for the Bulls you need attitude and aggretion, and has plenty of that.
The no.10 (Coleman) was mediocre and that had a negative effect on the back line, another concern was De Allende, why play him at inside centre,he would be far more effective at outside center and you have De Villiers one of the best inside centers in the country.

  5. EPK, great argument. Jean is the Bok incumbent at 12. When de Jongh is back that is where Jean will play. with Elton Jantjes the new flyhalf it would be logic to put Jean next to him than someone who wont be there most of the time.
