He who laughs last….

September 18, 2012 in Uncategorized

Saturdays fiasco reminded me of that classic line in Pieter Dirk Uys’s play “Die Van Aardes van Grootoor”. The not so bright character got her expression a bit wrong by declaring “wie laaste lag lag laaste”. I know who was laughing loudest on Saturday.

One may continue on the metaphor line by saying “die een se dood is die ander se brood”.

Peter must be really enjoying the chaos that is now Springbok rugby and who can blame him. As coach he was villified, ridiculed and laughed at. But never under his tenure did the Springboks perform as badly as the last few weeks. What makes Saturday even more tragic was the fact that just about any other team, given the opportuniteis the Boks had would have clinched the game in their favour. The Springboks were as inept as a schoolboy attempting his first french kiss. It was messy, soggy and totally unsatisfying for all involved, especially us spectators.

What concerns me even more is Heyneke’s behaviour as a coach. I never thought this possible but he looks more silly than Div. The incessant shouting into the two way radio is comedy stuff, and not sophisticated comedy at that but pure slip on banana skin variety. The sad part is that we are laughing but really all of us feel like crying.

WHY:┬áIs Lambie and Goosen not playing? Why is van der Merwe and Greyling even there? And lastly….why was I not rather born in Buenos Aires. At least I will be watching a team that I am proud of.

  1. Cool post. Divvy wys no almal n toffee. I bet he laughs into his beer every time the Boks drop a pass or miss a kick.

  2. Nice post Dar! Glad to see you posting!

  3. What HM says after a match really gets to me because it sounds so untruthful and what we the spectators are crying out for just lands on deaf ears. Div always shot a straight arrow

  4. Can’t agree more.

The biggest problem I have with HM is that he won’t admit to the obvious mistakes.

Even a blind man can see MSteyn not at international level at present but yet HM contest he is the best SA have and our no.1 flyhalf?? This has not been true since 2009.
Then his persistence with his game plan even though it is not working and then saying in the media there is nothing wrong with our game plan?

In the bok updates one see on TV all the players are practicing is kicking. Thats why when we try to run the ball nobody knows what to do with the ball and our basic skills are woeful.

If it wasn’t for a bit of Habana magic the score would have been even worse.

  5. Welcome back Tannie!!

Agreed, but the thing here is, all of us can see the problem but HM. Maybe he is just is to hardegat, stupid or overly set in his ways but he needs to catch a wake up and quickly, Divvy had success yes, but he was kak at the end, kak that HM probably has to scrape together.

Here is to hoping that our boys can pull it together and Goosen gets a start. :)

  6. Dar!!! glad to see you still here, nice post!

  7. lol.. loved you post dar!!

  8. Ja nee wat DAr, ek is al so gatvol soos n Gauteng Hijack victim. Die arme ou hou dik dat ons sal regkom…maar hoekom moet ek sulke snert kyk as die Currie Beker meer intresant is?

  9. CAPTCHA GONE!!!! Thanks :)

  10. I am calling for a New Springbok Coach maybe someone neutral that has no loyalties to any one of the Bulls, Lions, Stomers, Sharks, and and. I think it is time for a coach like John Mitchell, I know he may be able to but the best team on the park, and that team will be able to win every game, or maybe Graham Henry, with him at the helm; not event the All Blacks will be able to come close to us on the park!!!!!!!!!

  11. We must get a new coach. I am calling for a New Springbok Coach maybe someone neutral that has no loyalties to any one of the Bulls, Lions, Stomers, Sharks, and and. 12. The Springboks were as inept as a schoolboy attempting his first french kiss… WAHAHAHA Nice one!

  13. Like the post. One thing that one must bare in mind about the Divvy era was that the guys he was coaching would have been perfectly suited to Meyer’s plan. He tried running rugby on them and it backfired spectacularly. That being said and considering those in question have now moved on, I can’t help but wonder what Divvy would have done with a team of skillful players who can play his brand of rugby
