Demetri Catrakilis update.

As it turned out AC was correct and Catrakilis still had the option to turn down his “contract” with the Kings even after the CC final. Catrakilis in the end decided not to accept WPRU new offer (believed to be more than the Kings) and to honor his word and go to the Kings for 2013 and 2014.
In the end he made the correct decision because at his age (22) he would like to start as 1st choice FH at a S15 franchise. As I said before I just hope that he added an escape clause to his contract if EP fail to maintain SR status.
So it seems Demetri Catrakilis is Kings bound in the end. To be honest (as I have stated) this is probably his best option as he will be 1st choice FH for a SR union. I just hope he has an escape clause in his contract that he do not get stuck at the EP Kings if they get booted out of the S15 in 2014.
I do think he will probably have a hard time at the Kings as there chances of having a lot of front foot ball are slim to none. But this might help him grow as a player. My only fear is that his confidence gets dented beyond repair.
As for WPRU (as stated by BayLion on a few occasions) they missed a trick by not playing him as back-up in the S15 this season rather going for Francis. They also missed a trick by not giving him a proper contract offer until after the CC final when as it turned out it was to late to change his mind on the Kings.
As defense for the WP admin they were hell bound on signing Elton for next season and most other signings took a back seat. And with AC doubling as coach and talent scout as well as negotiator there is always the chance that he cannot give every matter enough attention.
This is probably still my biggest concern for WPRU. They do not have a Director of Rugby or the equivalent. To do the contracting and scouting of young players. We are still benefiting from all the hard work Rassie did and this might become a bigger problem in years to come. As admin people go they will probably only try to fix it when it is to late.
I read on twitter that this would be the first time a player that won the CC will play 1st div the next season. Bizarre but with the Kings playing SR but not CC it is to be expected.

Van ‘n Blou Bul, moet ek se dat die WP ‘n nou iets beet het, ek dink hulle gaan nou vir ‘n paar jaar ‘n span wees wat moeilik geklop gaan word, tewens dis goed so, want SA rugby was altyd sterk as die WP en die Bulle goed doen. So ons hier bo hoop maar die Bulle tel weer hulle stukkies op.Ek het net nie baie vertroue in Frans Ludecke nie, maar hoop maar hulle jong span groei goed.

Bulle het baie goeie jong talent geteken en miskien nie in 2013 nie (meskien wel?) maar nie te ver in die toekoms sal hulle weer ‘n baie sterk span wees.

Net so ‘n klein stekie in julle rigting, die WP doen goed want hulle het Heineke se struktuur wat hy by die Bulle gevestig het geimplimenteer via Rassie, dus werk hulle bou proses goed.. Hierdie is ‘n feit , vra maar vir Rassie.

Jip ek weet. Die ding is Rassie is nou weg. Sou graag wil he hulle moet hom met iemand vervang eerder as om AC al die werk te gee.

WP rugby & Coetzee have made a complete F##$k up with regard to Catrakilis & only AFTER the CC has been won, with Catrakilis performing brilliantly, do they come & make him an offer..!! This should’ve been done just after it was mentioned that he was signing up with the Kings—–PATHETIC WP & AC..!!! I hope he told them exactly what to do with their offer—-if I was him that’s exactly what I would’ve done & told them that I hope it hurts, when they stick it up their A##$s….?!! He was one of, if not the best players in last year’s CC & then not even given a “sniff” in the past SR season & then this season of CC, again probably best WP player..!!! I wish him well @ the Kings & going forward. Vic

Well yeah they did make a stuff-up regarding Catrakilis though they were trying to sign Jantjies long term and prob needed the cash if he was interested. And with Jantjies coming Catrakilis was always going to go to the Kings. No matte when or what the offer from WP was. They should have signed him last year on a long term contract though.
Agree he is a good player although he still has a lot to learn.
I hope he does well at the Kings although it looks unlikely. I can’t see the Kings doing to well in SR. Even with their new signings.

You must be smoking your socks or something. There is absolutely no way that Charl McCleod is a springbok quality scrum half. Reinach is a much better option for me or even Sarel Pretorius.
As for the backline it’s up to magnets as well. I think we need to be building for the 2015 RWC. And I have some serious doubts that jdv is going to be anywhere close to the best option at center. I say invest in the young guys now and get them up to speed with the pace of international rugby. They need to start getting the experience.
Pat Lambie needs to pick a spot and not compromise as well. For me I like him as a fly half rather that a fullback. He is getting shunted around all over the place at the moment and its not helping his career at all. How much game time did he get as a utility back in the rugby championship?? What was it like 40 mins in total?? He would have been better off getting game time at the sharks.
Captain?? Bismarck… Love him as a player… Captain… No ways. Temperament isn’t suited to captaincy. I think that Keegan Daniel led the Sharks Brilliantly this year in both super rugby and Currie Cup. For me he is the man for the job.
