The Oracle – Goosen to Start

September 26, 2012 in International Rugby, Rugby, Rugby Championship, Springboks

So after all my bleating about Johan Goosen he now gets to really show his worth as the starting number 10. This particular blogger is as happy as a pig in poo!

And, as all regular readers will know there is something else I do not generally keep quiet about. There are 8 Grey College Bloemfontein old boys in the match 22, with 5 of those in the starting 15. They are:

Starting: Ruan Pienaar, Frans Steyn, Johan Goosen, Jannie Du Plessis, Adrian Strauss

Bench: Tiaan Liebenburg, Coenie Oosthuizen, Flip vd Merwe

Now that might be a new record :) Let’s hope this team will play a more open game because they have the talent for it. Meyer’s selections tell me they intend to!

Enjoy the weekend and here’s to the Boks hammering the Aussies Grey Bloem style!

Goosen Needs To Start

June 29, 2012 in International Rugby, Rugby, Rugby Championship, Springboks, Super Rugby

Goosen Offloads

So apparently Peter Grant tops SA’s kicking list and should really be starting for  the Boks. That is if the largely Cape based scribes at Sport24 and the way they interpret the data are to be believed. I think there are a lot more things to consider so allow me to touch on a few of them before coming back to the kicking success rates.

I do also want to pay respect to Morne Steyn. Fans are very quick to change their views and turn on someone that has served them well. That is not to say the man should be an automatic selection game after game because of his history (read: John Smit), but it also does not mean the guy deserves malicious treatment. Benefit of the doubt needs to go to him – for a short while at least. Not to mention respect!  Read the rest of this entry →
