Housekeeping – Don’t Jump The Gun!

“Vat jou goed en trek, Ferreira”
I think it is way to early to ring the alarm bells and run for the hills!
Yes, Sport24 changing blog platforms was not managed in the most effective way possible. Yes, the guys at Sport24 could have done tons of things to ensure a smoother move. Yes, there is loads of spam filtering through. Yes, it seems as though there was nothing wrong with the old system so why fix what ain’t broke? Yes, there is a bunch of confusing shit to figure out. Yes, we wait patiently for email updates again … and so the list goes on!
There are clearly a few problems with this platform right now but I for one have no problem with any organisation changing for the better (or perceived better) before what they currently have ends up broken. Why wait for it to break?
I reckon folks who move exclusively to the pure WordPress platform do not quite understand what they will be missing out on here as soon as all the bugs move aside. Anyone remember all the bitching and moaning (and all related ‘issues’) when moving to the Letterdash system?
What you will eventually get here is all the benefits of WordPress that Powa has been promoting, together with the benefit of remaining a community. Moving away from this platform might enable us all to huddle in a small group and have our say from time to time, whilst perhaps building a greater following of unknowns. Remember that this is also WordPress so once all is well (AND IT WILL BE) all will come crawling back because you can achieve the greater audience (if that’s what you’re after) as well as retain that wonderful sense of community.
For all you naysayers out there remember the wise words of General Eric Shinseki, Chief of Staff, U.S. Army:
“If you don’t like change, you’re going to like irrelevance even less!”

I already had my other WP blog….but if I write anything new I’ll write on this one for now. Hopefully time will tell whether they will improve this site.
In any event, don’t have much to write about right now….suffering from some sort of writers block…lacking inspiration!

Yip, I’ll do the same and just post to both. I won’t do much posting now either because I am suddenly very busy with work … already procrastinating RIGHT NOW!!

No captcha works for me

Lack of interaction with other like minded bloggers also gives me bloggers blank. With the three of us not posting much I think the other guys will slowly lose heart and either move or quit. Just looking at the latest posts. Your one was the last done 11hrs ago. Nobody since. Other than adverts.

I agree Greenman.
A change is as good as a holiday, sure the weather was a bit bad on this holiday, but does that mean you will never go back to Margate (assuming you still live in SA) again because of that one bad time?
Things will get better and even those of us who are doing this as a hobby will reap the benefits, or even make this feel like a more professional hobby at least.
Stick it out for a couple of weeks.

I already have another wordpress blog anyway (http://thegreenmansa.wordpress.com/) and I generally post to both of them. Anyway, in the same light perhaps the change that is required is a move away. We shall see!
To answer your question, I live in London. Have done since 2004 but still spend tons of time in SA. Mostly between the Free State (Virginia / Welkom) where my folks live, and then Cape Town and Umhlanga Rocks where we also have family.

Don’t forget your family in JHB.

OK, who are you!

I will keep sports24 blog running to see what happens, but in the meanwhile I’ll post on wordpress and post a copy on 24. I can’t handle the aggravation of struggling to do things there

I have just visited eye of the fly and his new layout says that I must be logged in to comment. I can’t see many people bothering to go through that rigmarole and captcha etc

The problem is we are all (well most) doing this as a part time hobby.
Yes wordpress is in theory much better than letterdash but in the same way coreldraw is better than paint.
If all you want to do is draw red sircles than coreldraw is just way to complicated.
Most of us just want to do 3 things:
write a post
comment on others posts
be able to see the newest posts
thats all not all this fancy but way to technical stuff.
If they continue down this path they will lose a lot of the blogging comunity.

I agree with the gen. I blog because I like to write and express my thoughts. Primarily I enjoy the comments and interaction with other bloggers. If you look at the old LD setup the interaction was between 15 to 20 bloggers with very little interaction from outside. Readers maybe but very few commented. I don’t seek readership but would rather have comments and interaction. People that click on a sport24 url to read a blog can just as easily click on a wordpress url. They control who they read by bookmark or blogroll so the address is immaterial in my opinion.

Powa, the major thing for me is that with a separate wordpress set up you don’t get the benefit of seeing a list of the new posts every day as well as the benefit of easily finding new bloggers that join the platform. I am confused at this juncture so will retain both for now but hope that this one works out. I truly don’t have the time right now to concern myself too much with setting both up properly with tags, categories etc.
