Bismarck no longer an automatic selection #Bok15
April 13, 2012 in Uncategorized
Bismarck du Plessis better watch out cos Adriaan Straaus is hot on his heels. Some of you may castrate me for saying that, but before you do – have a look at the Stats. Bok Rugby enters a new era, and Bismarck is not an automatic selection anymore. I’m not saying he shouldn’t start, I’m merely saying that his inclusion is not as absolete as it was when Rugby World Cup ended last year, and JS retired. Don’t be foolish and just assume that its his time. Analyse the present without getting all emotional because he missed out the last few years due to the unfortunate situation with John Smit. Also, dont hate just because you love Bismarck…I think he’s brilliant as well. Have a look at the info below.
My views are not unfounded. Statistics help me out.
Everyone goes nuts becuse Bismarck steals lank ball. Kak. He has stolen only 3 balls in 7 rounds of Super Rugby.

Then, Just to grab your attention (from our friends at Axe). Follow the instructions on the Right – Can you see the Pic?

Then – lets have a look at the thing that pisses us all off the most. When Bismarck gives away a penalty, we all (Sharks and Bok fans) scream at him. I’ve seen it with my own eyes. On the Penalty count, Bismarck is right up there as expected.

Lets Turnover Stats. Bismarck is also right up there, but Adriaan Strauss pips him to the post

If I have a look at the SuperSport Fantasy League, the stats (points scored for awesomeness) also act in favour of Adriaan Strauss. As expected, Bismarck is the most popular of the Hookers. Those who have him in your side, are playing second fiddle to those playing Adriaan Strauss.

I’m not saying Bismarck shouldn’t be our starting hooker. All I’m saying is that he is no longer a automatic selection. I’m sure Heyneke will go into a whole lot more details, but straight off the bat – Adriaan Strauss needs to be seriously considered.
Yeah well. Thats my thoughts. Nuff said. Well played to the Sharks this morning. Craig Burden was superb

So Chilliboy is nowhere there?

Is Pocock really better than Brizzy at stealing?

So the Bismark is sunk by the Cheetah Waltz King. I’m amazed that a Cape town laatjie has so much time to garner all these stats. Thanks.

Interesting! I just had the discussion with someone about Bismarck about the exact same thing! Biz probably thinks now that Barney is gone, its home free for him! Not so I’m afraid!
uysh said on April 13, 2012
Another thing the stats don’t show is the lineout throws. Adriaan is better with the lineouts too!

You are right but the BEST Hooker in SA is Tanya van Graan BUT on the rugby field its Chilliboyes ala Ralapela!!! And he is also the new long term prospect for captain. There I said it!!
LegendaryRoach said on April 13, 2012
Love you work! Strauss has leadership qualities as well, which also counts in his favour.

And let me guess … Zane Kirchner is the best fullback? And Wynand Olivier the best centre?

haha nog n stormers ondersteuner miskien moet iemand stats uitbring van hoeveel stormers nou hier blog..
nice first post

Ralapele at the moment gives Bismarck a run for his money and he outplayed him when the Bulls played the Sharks.
And Olivier has been the best 12 in the country for a few weeks during this years Super 15.
thegreenman said on April 13, 2012
That is the opinion of a Bulls fan, so not too impartial on those particular players. I would definitely argue that Strauss is currently the best hooker in the country (after someone named Tanya van Graan apparently). Considering I am a Cheetahs fan I may not be taken too seriously.
In truth, I think there is very little between Strauss and Ralapele on current form. Bismarck has not been at his best, granted. But at his best there is nobody better.
Again as a Cheetahs fan, if I were forced to choose the best form centre in the country at the moment, I would pick Whitehead, De Villiers and De Jong above Olivier.
Great that we can all have different opinions though, some more objective than others
GertBloues said on April 13, 2012
I must admit that the Sharks’ playing schedule did not allow me to watch enough of their games to form an opinion on Whitehead, but I’ve seen Olivier, De Villiers and Jongh play a few times already.
Olivier’s defense is top notch, he scored a few tries and he put his outside backs through for a few tries as well. That’s more than can be said about De Villiers for the past two seasons now.
However, I still don’t think that De Villiers should be replaced at the Boks. I don’t think any of the current Boks still playing should be replaced unless they are way out of form, which isn’t the case with any of them at the moment.

Form is temporary, class is permanent – anyone who believes for a second, come test rugby time, that Bismark shouldnt start, needs his/her head read.
No offence.

Love your stats. Without having access to those ,i think Strauss on current form is the best number 2. i suspect though that Bismarck was carrying an injury and was not well managed because his team is struggling. Keegan Daniels has done enough in todays game that i would be sorely tempted to make him the top nr 8 in the country on current form.Only Duanne and Ashley is currently challenging him .Pierre is just not the complete product for me at the moment.Maybe they should have made Hougaardt Captain.

Let the stats show that I was the only one staring at the picture – yip, it is a Bulls Babe
Nice post, boet. Strauss is superb.

@ The Greenman, come on, we all know Wynand and Zane are crap
However, even as a Stormers supporter, I have to agree that Chiliboy is far better than Bissie at the moment. One thing about the stats tho is that Chilliboy doesn’t seem to feature, yet I’ve seen him pilfer regularly??
Christovdwalt said on April 15, 2012
Jy maak jou punt baie goed. Sou net wou lees dat jy jou keuse maak. Persoonlik sal ek met Strauss begin en Bismarck as impak speler gebruik na so 50 minute.
Christovdwalt said on April 15, 2012
Reg ja – Chili speel goeie rugby maar hy is kort koppie agter. Jammer vir hom.

I would play both. Much of the decision on who to start and who to play off the bench would lie in the game plan…

SportsTruth, Nice artice BUT these stats does not seem to be correct. In the last couple of games I saw Chiliboy make at least 8 steals. Went to Rugby Stats web page and found the following:
-
Most Try Assists: Fourie Du Preez 5
Most Penalties Conceded: 2. Francois Louw (Stormers) 11
Most Lineouts Won: 4. Victor Matfield (Bulls) 32
Clearly something wrong with these stats
SportsTruth said on April 16, 2012
Shit Streaker, you’re looking at the wrong year bru. None of the 3 players you mention even play Super Rugby anymore
