While pondering for a replacement I didn’t think of Davids and I now think he is the logical option with his spin coming into my thinking but then with Smith and Kallis out I would then go with a cool head of Vilas to keep wicket and bat @ three with Faf opening so that AB concentrates on his job

Agreed, but as I explained to Powa, The Champions Trophy is no place to blood youngsters. yes it’s out of our control because Smith is injured and Kallis doesn’t want to play but if those two were available nobody would be even thinking of blooding players. you just can’t experiment at these ICC events.

Disagree, Kallis yes, Smith is only 32, that’s the age most Aussies start their international career. besides a Champions trophy is not the place to Blood replacements.

Unfortunately both are getting closer to retiring and we have to start blooding replacements.

It must be said Sheriffff, I do feel that we are losing massive experience here and as a huge Smith fan, i think he will be missed in this competition, as will Kallis. But as Uysh says, I think it is time that the ‘old guard’ of Kallis be lookid into. Smith still has a couple of miles on the clock, but we need to start bleeding some youngsters in?

Yup, they will definitely be missed. Thing is, we can’t always run back to them to save us, we have to let the boys do the work and get a bit independant. AB is no child anymore an although he is still learning the captaincy role, he sooner or later will have to swim on his own. This championship trophy might not be the ideal time for that, but then, when is?
