No Kallis for Champions Trophy

So News just in is that Kallis has made himself unavailbale for the Champions Trophy and therefore not in the 15 man final Squad.

AB de Villiers (Titans – captain), Hashim Amla (Cape Cobras), Farhaan Behardien (Titans), JP Duminy (Cape Cobras), Faf du Plessis (Titans), Colin Ingram (Warriors), Rory Kleinveldt (Cape Cobras), Ryan McLaren (Knights), David Miller (Dolphins), Morne Morkel (Titans), Robbie Peterson (Cape Cobras), Aaron Phangiso (Highveld Lions), Graeme Smith (Cape Cobras), Dale Steyn (Cape Cobras), Lonwabo Tsotsobe (Dolphins)

What exactly are the “personal reasons” Kallis has for making himself unavailable? We needed him for this competition.

There are five key men that will play and will have to take SA on their shoulders and try and win the damn thing.

Graeme Smith, AB de Villiers and Hashim Amla will need to carry the team batting wise while Morkel and Steyn the bowling.

Kallis should have been there

Bet you they dropped him. I mean, wasn’t he also dropped for the last ODI series? Something stinks.

  2. Leeubok:

Yeah, I wonder what his “personal” reasons are? He said before he’d like to play in one last world cup. But in my opinion, you either play in the ODI team or you don’t. You cant pick and choose when you want to play. So now he doesnt play any ODI cricket, which gives a chance for someone else to play and establish himself, but come world cup time that oke has to make way for him again? I’m sorry but in my opinion it doesnt work like that, not even if you are King Kallis

  3. Frost:

I’ll take that bet. I don’t see why they will hide the fact that Kallis was dropped, or why Kallis would agree to keep quiet about being dropped.

I don’t think we really need him in this tournament though. In ODI’s we tend to miss him because he’s a batting all-rounder. In Faf and Duminy we will have two now. If you really want to be generous you can name Behardien as a third.

Question: Am I the only one who doesn’t rate Behardien?

  4. Gilbert:

Kallis is old now, its time for new guys, FAF, Duminy , Millar and Ingram all MORE than able to turn a game around

kallis takes maybe 2 wickets a game and maybe gets a 40+ now and again

i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again, the day we drop kallis is the day we win a world cup

let him play tests and sleep with the old dogs :)

I love him, but its time to go :)

I don’t watch much domestic cricket thb so I can’t say how much I rate Behardien. He did bat nicely in the last few ODI’s if I recall correctly. To me it just doesn’t make sense that Kallis will make himself unavailable because he himself said he still feels he has one more world cup in him and that’s still the one thing he wants to achieve. Why will he give himself even less chance for getting one?

  6. Leeubok:

No you’re not the only one. Look, he’s not bad. He has done pretty well for the proteas on a few occasions and he did well during the domestic competition. But he’s already in his 30′s if I’m not mistaken, and there are plenty other youngsters who are just as good and even better that they can include. I would definitely have Q de Kock in the team ahead of Behardien!

  7. Frost:

Age doesn’t really bother me. He will be 30 in October. That’s about the age Michael Hussey was when he started.

What bothers me is that I have no cricketing reason not to like him. He has had some good knocks under pressure, he seems to finish well, but for some reason I just don’t like him.

Gilbert, how can you talk like that about Kallis? If you “love” him then why do you say “let him play tests and sleep with the old dogs”??? So he’s an old dog then, a has-been destined for the dustbin.

Test cricket is the only form of cricket I enjoy. Can you remember who won the last three IPL’s. ODI’s are fu#$ing boring. Only the ICC tournaments are worth watching but even those are like reading Baylion’s posts about how great the Lions are.

Show some respect for one of South Africa’s finest. .

Why don’t they pick Vernon Philander? Or does this guy choose not to play limited overs cricket?
Why not drop Tsotsobe or Morkel and bring in Kyle Abbott? What about Marchant de Lange? Too many questions can be asked about this team and not just the Kallis issue.
Something really stinks in SA Cricket.

    hahahahaha! love the Baylion chirp

I think the problem with Behardien is that he is in the same mold as Kane Kirchner. Reliable but nothing special. They will not do anything spectacular. He can bat for a period and make runs but will never be an AB who can score 50 of 20 balls. He’s an above average provincial but below par international player.

are you insane??! drop morkel the most consistent bowler we have in the oci format seriously\???

  14. Skipper:

No you are not the only one that doesn’t rate Behardien. You are wrong not to though. As his numbers are better than Faf, Miller, De Kock and Albie. And that there is the truth that a lot of people don’t see.

  15. Me:

Really dont want to get involved but wow there are a lot of absolute shit opinions on this page. Rather leave it to the people in charge please
