Bekker jou doring!!!

March 25, 2013 in rugby, sport, super 15

Before the game even started I was a bit worried about the outcome and thought that the Stormers were going to struggle against a very good Brumbies team, but after the first ten minutes I started to relax and enjoy the game.

A few of the guys that stood out for me were,

Andries Bekker who is back to his brilliant best,

Jean de Villiers who is outstanding at 12 but only mediocre at 13, why they insist on him at 13, I have no idea, I can’t think of any reason that makes sense.

Aplon was his usual slippery self until knocked senseless by the Brumbies huge no8. Aplon, de Jongh and Jantjies were targeted by the big Brumbies loosies, but they took the hits and clung on for dear life until help arrived.

There was nobody that played really badly except for Taute who was obviously rusty.

Cheers Brumbies,

Kings were  outclassed as expected. (I foresee a moving of the goal posts before the end of the season promo relegation games.)

Maybe they will combine with the Rebels and become the Rebings or the Kebels or something :)

Bulls looked lost and bewildered and got beaten by the Reds.  Super Cooper seems to think it’s his own private game and the other 14 are just there to make up the numbers. I think the Reds would be better without him.

Cheetahs have won three away games for the first time which is great but lets be fair and honest Force, Waratahs and Hghlanders are not nearly as strong as the teams they still have to play as the Sharks and Chiefs have shown, and now there is no Goosen (Smit is a very good player but not as good).

Sharks destroyed the Rebels, which once again highlights the fact that Oz rugby is too weak to warrant 5 teams in the competition. They are spread too thin.

Bekker you beauty

March 10, 2013 in rugby, sport, super 15

Now that’s the Bekker I know and remember. His performance on Saturday was inspirational and played a big part in motivating the rest of the team. Well done Stormers …… Great game!  An expensive win though.

The Stormers victory over the Chiefs has come at a price as they have lost winger Bryan Habana to injury for 10 weeks.

Habana was stretchered off the pitch in the 55th minute of the match after being tackled by Sam Cane and fell awkwardly.

The Stormers have revealed that they think he has injured his Medial collateral ligament (MCL) which is an injury to the ligament on the inner part of the knee and the ligament keeps the shin bone (tibia) in place.

Cheetahs and Bulls stuffed my Superbru and the Kings joined the Stormers as the top two defensive teams.

Sharks will get their bums kicked by the Brumbies if they produce the same lackluster game as the last three. They need to score tries and not just defend themselves into a coma.

Boks tweaking gameplan

September 22, 2012 in currie cup, rugby, sport, springboks, super 15

The HP manager is Rassie Erasmus. By the way.

Saru’s High Performance Manager admitted that the Springboks’ much-maligned kick-and-chase approach has been gradually losing its efficiency in recent seasons.

He was quick to add, however, that the Boks should not veer from their conservative gameplan but rather make minor changes to add more strings to their bow.

Read the whole article then come back and voice your opinion.

via iafrica.com | sport | today | Boks tweaking gameplan.

I don’t know what the relationship is between HP manager and Head coach or who is higher on the totem pole but it is encouraging to see or hear someone admit that our present game plan needs tweaking.

If you read the article further you will see what I also believe is the root cause of our problems. Burnout!! Yes folks Burnout!

By the time our players have finished playing the Super 15 they are exhausted and burned out and stale. No matter how much you love the game and enjoy watching or playing Saturday after Saturday, you have to admit that there is currently, just too much rugby.

Straight from Super rugby (With some tests thrown into the mix) the top players go into an extended Tri nation, Champions cup and then on to an end of year tour.

It is no wonder that the injury lists are so high. Bodies can only take so much abuse before breaking down.

Central contracts allowing player management to take control instead of money, will go a long way to strengthening our national team and increase the playing time of all bench/fringe players.

Brains must overcome greed and the National team must be able to dictate player game time or restrictions on playing time must be introduced and monitored.

Will the Lions v Kings playoff take place?

September 21, 2012 in rugby, sport, super 15

Eyewitness News reported on Thursday that the Kings have asked Saru for special dispensation to field more than the regulation two foreign players.

Saru confirmed that the regulation across all Sanzar countries – South Africa, New Zealand and Australia – are that only two foreigners per franchise are allowed.

However, there is a principle for special dispensation in Australia – where the Rebels were allowed 10 foreigners in their first season, to be reduced annually over five years, while the Western Force had their quota increased to three for 2013.

InSouth Africa the Sanzar executive committee – not the full council – will make this call and they will consider the “request” at their next meeting.

Personally, I don’t have a problem with it. I don’t think many players will want to sign for one year only, but that remains to be seen.

This whole scenario still reeks of incompetence and I am sure the putrefaction at SARU will increase the stench at the end of Super 15, 2013.

Who will go and who will stay, contracts, fees and under counter payments will be made and someone will want to sue another and the whole vat of threat and counter threat will start all over again and in all likelihood will carry on until 2015 when SANZAR can review it’s TV deal.

Will the promised playoff take place or will the goalposts  be moved once again?

I’m too stupid or maybe too clever to guess, so you tell me.
