Saffas need to vasbyt and toughen up!!!

May 30, 2013 in rugby, super 15

debate2

I received this comment on a previous post, from someone called Me(I know this) and seeing that a lot of guys could have missed reading it, I am posting it here for further comment. It was in response to a comment by Gertbloues on my post where I called the S15 boring, that said we should change the format of the S15 back to every team playing each other once and getting rid of the duplicate Currie cup section of the competition and let SA have 16 teams etc…….

This is fair comment which opens the debate for discussion. Read what an “outsider”  thinks, then comment and debate the points he makes.

debate

When will South Africans wake up and smell the coffee. You have to tolerate Australia’s problems as they are your bed partners. You have all banged on for years about Southern Hemisphere must stick together and now suddenly you talk about joining the Europe (Northern Hemisphere) cos it suddenly doesn’t suit you ? I thought Saffas were tough. Billy Ocean said when the going gets tough the tough get going… was he singing to South Africa ? When the going gets tough you all want to leave ? Toughen up man. Vasbyt.

You lot keep going on about the biggest stadiums and so on – it is irrelevant. SANZAR takes nothing from the gate money. It’s ALL about TV and even then SA’s figures aren’t that great. The ONLY thing SA has in their favour is the time zone as Europe can watch the rugby. SA Rugby is on the whole boring. Anyone who has watched a NZ derby and then a Aussie derby and then an SA derby without bok coloured glasses can see where the excitement is. SA Rugby is all about kicking and big forwards bashing into each other. That does NOT make good viewing internationally.

Talk of SA fielding six teams is a joke. You can’t even do it NOW! Look how many Lions players are playing for other SA teams. SA does NOT have the depth for six teams – probably not even five given the Lions performances. Make the five teams work before anything else.

You made your bed now lie in it. Aus is your partner – live with it. The format is for five teams each. Make each one of them competitive and then talk about a sixth one.

Bekker jou doring!!!

March 25, 2013 in rugby, sport, super 15

Before the game even started I was a bit worried about the outcome and thought that the Stormers were going to struggle against a very good Brumbies team, but after the first ten minutes I started to relax and enjoy the game.

A few of the guys that stood out for me were,

Andries Bekker who is back to his brilliant best,

Jean de Villiers who is outstanding at 12 but only mediocre at 13, why they insist on him at 13, I have no idea, I can’t think of any reason that makes sense.

Aplon was his usual slippery self until knocked senseless by the Brumbies huge no8. Aplon, de Jongh and Jantjies were targeted by the big Brumbies loosies, but they took the hits and clung on for dear life until help arrived.

There was nobody that played really badly except for Taute who was obviously rusty.

Cheers Brumbies,

Kings were  outclassed as expected. (I foresee a moving of the goal posts before the end of the season promo relegation games.)

Maybe they will combine with the Rebels and become the Rebings or the Kebels or something :)

Bulls looked lost and bewildered and got beaten by the Reds.  Super Cooper seems to think it’s his own private game and the other 14 are just there to make up the numbers. I think the Reds would be better without him.

Cheetahs have won three away games for the first time which is great but lets be fair and honest Force, Waratahs and Hghlanders are not nearly as strong as the teams they still have to play as the Sharks and Chiefs have shown, and now there is no Goosen (Smit is a very good player but not as good).

Sharks destroyed the Rebels, which once again highlights the fact that Oz rugby is too weak to warrant 5 teams in the competition. They are spread too thin.

Bekker you beauty

March 10, 2013 in rugby, sport, super 15

Now that’s the Bekker I know and remember. His performance on Saturday was inspirational and played a big part in motivating the rest of the team. Well done Stormers …… Great game!  An expensive win though.

The Stormers victory over the Chiefs has come at a price as they have lost winger Bryan Habana to injury for 10 weeks.

Habana was stretchered off the pitch in the 55th minute of the match after being tackled by Sam Cane and fell awkwardly.

The Stormers have revealed that they think he has injured his Medial collateral ligament (MCL) which is an injury to the ligament on the inner part of the knee and the ligament keeps the shin bone (tibia) in place.

Cheetahs and Bulls stuffed my Superbru and the Kings joined the Stormers as the top two defensive teams.

Sharks will get their bums kicked by the Brumbies if they produce the same lackluster game as the last three. They need to score tries and not just defend themselves into a coma.

Morne Steyn confirms switch to Stade Francais

March 4, 2013 in rugby, sport, super 15

I had a feeling that this was coming.

Not much of a surprise but we will miss him. Bulls will struggle without him and Ludecke will have to think further than plan A now.

Racing after Bulls’ Bok

December 7, 2012 in rugby, sport, springboks, super 15

Struggling French outfit Racing Métro is chasing the signature of the Bulls’ Springbok lock Juandré Kruger.

French media reports suggested Racing coach Gonzalo Quesada is attempting to “reinforce” his resources by luring the 27-year-old Kruger to Paris.

Barend van Graan, CEO of the Blue Bulls Company, confirmed to this website that he is “aware” of interest in Kruger from abroad, but added that nothing is finalised yet.

Nine or the bench – Hougaard

November 22, 2012 in rugby, sport, springboks

Springbok utility back Francois Hougaard wants to play only scrumhalf next season and admits that he would rather play off the bench for the Boks if it meant he could put all his focus into improving in the number nine jersey.

In a refreshingly open interview with the Keo.co.za website, Hougaard admitted to feeling frustrated by his move to the wing this season for the Boks, after starting the season in his preferred position of scrumhalf.

via iafrica.com | sport | today | Nine or the bench – Hougaard.

He better improve on his box kicking or he won’t even be on the bench. Why do coaches persist in playing players in positions that they don’t want to play. If he is not wanted at 9 leave him out!

Matfield, Hougaard return to coach Bulls

November 21, 2012 in rugby, sport, super 15

THE Blue Bulls Rugby Union on Tuesday announced an exciting new coaching team for the 2013 season, featuring former Bulls and Springbok lock Victor Matfield and flyhalf Derick Hougaard, as they look ahead to a new era after the departure of a handful of coaches to the national team this year.

Matfield replaces Bok assistant coach Johann van Graan as the union’s forwards and attack coach, while Hougaard, whose career ended abruptly late in 2010 due to a torn Achilles tendon, will assume the role as skills and kicking coach.

2013 SuperRugby Jerseys now available!!!

October 12, 2012 in rugby, super 15

With the SARU ruling that the EP Kings will replace the Lions in next years 2013 SuperRugby Championship, there has been much rumour and speculation about which Lions players are going where. Judging by the ‘unnoficial’ reports, it looks like the bulk of the Lions players will be going to the Stormers and the Sharks. If these reports are to be believed, I feel it is only right for these Unions to incorporate the Lions colours and logo into their 2013 SuperRugby jerseys.

Before the Currie Cup started I did say that the Lions were the team to watch in the CC but I never expected to see the Eighth placed Bulls to be there.

What is the problem with this super power of rugby. They have Heineke Meyer back as their Director of rugby and all things beautiful, they had 7 or 8 Bokke come back from a tour but they still lose to a Lions team that has only one questionable Bok in the team

The Sharks get walloped even after bringing on all the Bok replacements by a very motivated Griquas team but still Griquas! Huh!

The Stormers were stupidly undisciplined and deserved to lose a game that they had in the bag. The Cheetahs were the only team to benefit from the return of their Springboks.

Is this only proving the point that these returning players aren’t as good as we think and that the depth in SA rugby is actually quite shallow or are these players psychologically in a slump after taking a couple of hidings against Aus and ABs.

Big guns back for Springboks

Headlines in the Age in Aus!

My question is “Will these big guns shoot blanks”

Some other questions that need answers
Are our players mentally and physically strong enough to handle the pressure of all this top drawer rugby?
Do the sports psychologists prepare these players properly?
Do our players need to spend more time with the hand/eye coordinator coaches to improve their skills?

Then this year comes along and guess what’s happening? Bulls at the bottom and the Boks draw and lose more than they win. A win against a severely depleted Australian team doesn’t mean we have arrived!
