TALK ABOUT ROSE (Or green) TINTED GLASSES

It wasn’t the prettiest of victories but who cares when the last time the Springboks were at Murrayfield, in 2010, they lost, and let’s not forget the Boks are currently missing several first choice players.

Sure, there is plenty of work still to be done by this Bok team, but when, with half a first choice team, you’re able to win in Dublin and follow that up with a win in Edinburgh things can’t be too bad. It is now two out of two for Meyer and his Boks – and a third straight win against England at Twickenham on Saturday would make this European tour a very successful one indeed.

After what has been a very trying year for Meyer, with so little time to work with a bunch of players he is now only starting to really know and understand, and considering how many men he’s lost to injury, Saturday’s victory at Murrayfield was huge – and mightily satisfying for all concerned.

  1. Correct me if I’m wrong but we have only three first choice players injured who haven’t been amply replaced: Beast, Bismarck and Habana

    For the rest:
Andries Bekker – Playing 8 tests in three years hardly qualifies him as vital to the cause
Schalk Burger – Replaced by Flo
Heinrich Brussouw – Not in HM’s picture
Juan Smith – Last played in 2010, not in the picture anymore
Pierre Spies – Replaced by Duane

    Anyone else?

And keep in mind we played the # 7 & #9 teams, each with their own injury problems.

Sorry, “a win is a win” just don’t wash if you are the #2 team playing the #7 & #9 teams

    • Forgot about Frans Steyn :o

      • Spies replaced by Vermuelen? Does that even count as first choice being replaced by a lower quality player?

Beast and Bismark have been well replaced, only Hougaard and JdV are the ones essencially holding the team back. But is that not more due to gameplan than anything else?

Scraping a win against an injury depleted Irish team, and a not so emphatic victory over a pretty average Scotish team, is not my idea of a good EOYT, especially since we haven’t blooded any youngsters, as opposed to the ABs
