Hore’s punishment doesn’t match the crime

November 30, 2012 in rugby, sport

Andrew Keith Hore will be happy he wasn’t playing rugby in Keith Murdoch’s day or he could be on a plane bound to nowhere, or at least farming in central Australia rather than Central Otago.

Hore’s swinging arm from behind that floored Welsh lock Bradley Davies and sent him to hospital has been punished with an eight week suspension by the International Rugby Board.

It was then reduced to five because of Hore’s exemplary record during a 74-test career, genuine remorse and daily contact with Davies.

That seems a fair punishment on the surface because Hore won’t be able to play against England or the three test home series against France and the opening Bedisloe Cup test against Australia on August 24.

Well, actually that’s not right.

Springboks redeemed

November 26, 2012 in sport

Although some armchair critics will never be satisfied, we believe Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer and his charges have redeemed themselves with the successful completion of their European tour.

To prevail against England  in such atrocious conditions, under the whip from a visually challenged referee, (I think that Mr Owens and his co refs should be reassessed and sanctioned or at least sent to scrumming school to learn how scrums are supposed to work) showed depth of character. If the awarding of Willem Alberts’s try was bizarre it scarcely made up for the bad calls by Welsh whistleblower Nigel Owens.

By winning three out of three on this trip, the Boks brought their tally for the year to seven victories, three losses and two draws. Considering that two of the losses were against the rampant World Champion All Blacks, Meyer can be reasonably pleased with his first season.

Nine or the bench – Hougaard

November 22, 2012 in rugby, sport, springboks

Springbok utility back Francois Hougaard wants to play only scrumhalf next season and admits that he would rather play off the bench for the Boks if it meant he could put all his focus into improving in the number nine jersey.

In a refreshingly open interview with the Keo.co.za website, Hougaard admitted to feeling frustrated by his move to the wing this season for the Boks, after starting the season in his preferred position of scrumhalf.

via iafrica.com | sport | today | Nine or the bench – Hougaard.

He better improve on his box kicking or he won’t even be on the bench. Why do coaches persist in playing players in positions that they don’t want to play. If he is not wanted at 9 leave him out!

Is this it for Bok skipper De Villiers?

November 21, 2012 in rugby, sport, springboks

Who is the Bok captain next year? I don’t think Jean will make it to the next world cup.

De Villiers played in his 83rd Test on Saturday, a mainstay of the Springboks for the last 10 years. But with a younger, stronger and possibly quicker crop of centres coming through, and available to Meyer in 2013, the sands of time may just be running out for one of the nicest guys to have worn the Bok jersey … and captain the team.

Ultimately it will be form, and not age, that decides De Villiers’ fate, with Meyer having to decide whether he’s done enough on the playing field in 2012 to warrant consideration next year.

Could Saturday have been the last we see of De Villiers the Bok? Possibly

Matfield, Hougaard return to coach Bulls

November 21, 2012 in rugby, sport, super 15

THE Blue Bulls Rugby Union on Tuesday announced an exciting new coaching team for the 2013 season, featuring former Bulls and Springbok lock Victor Matfield and flyhalf Derick Hougaard, as they look ahead to a new era after the departure of a handful of coaches to the national team this year.

Matfield replaces Bok assistant coach Johann van Graan as the union’s forwards and attack coach, while Hougaard, whose career ended abruptly late in 2010 due to a torn Achilles tendon, will assume the role as skills and kicking coach.

‘Lambie must stick to flyhalf’

November 20, 2012 in rugby, sport, springboks

OR NOT

Koen feels the match against Scotland saw the Boks deliver their finest out of hand kicking performance of the year so far.

“In that first half we kicked 14 times and 12 of the kicks had successful outcomes. That is the best stat of the year so far. Of course in the second half it went the other way, and we had only two successful kicks in 10. I believe that the guys are now starting to understand better when we should kick and when we should play the ball. There is much greater accuracy in that regard.”

SO having 14 successful kicks from 24 “IS MUCH GREATER ACCURACY IN THAT REGARD” and ‘ their finest out of hand kicking performance of the year so far.’
EISH !!!! We must have been really shit before. C’mon Louis think of something better to say.

TALK ABOUT ROSE (Or green) TINTED GLASSES

November 19, 2012 in rugby, sport, springboks

TALK ABOUT ROSE (Or green) TINTED GLASSES

It wasn’t the prettiest of victories but who cares when the last time the Springboks were at Murrayfield, in 2010, they lost, and let’s not forget the Boks are currently missing several first choice players.

Sure, there is plenty of work still to be done by this Bok team, but when, with half a first choice team, you’re able to win in Dublin and follow that up with a win in Edinburgh things can’t be too bad. It is now two out of two for Meyer and his Boks – and a third straight win against England at Twickenham on Saturday would make this European tour a very successful one indeed.

After what has been a very trying year for Meyer, with so little time to work with a bunch of players he is now only starting to really know and understand, and considering how many men he’s lost to injury, Saturday’s victory at Murrayfield was huge – and mightily satisfying for all concerned.

Dear Mr Meyer

November 19, 2012 in rugby, sport, springboks

CJ IS NO LONGER GOOD ENOUGH TO BE USED AS A TIGHTHEAD PROP>>>>>>>>> PLEASE RECTIFY THIS GLARING ERROR IN SELECTION FOR THIS SATURDAY.

If Jannie can’t play for 80 minutes get a competent replacement. Malherbe would be better despite his youth and inexperience

Boks happy with second?

November 19, 2012 in rugby, sport, springboks

Please at least have the decency to concede the fact that watching grass grow is fast becoming a more entertaining spectacle than watching the Boks play …

“Wow, what a crap game of rugby, and that is not something we as a team are striving toward, or proud of, but in an attempt to grow our depth and evolve as a team, eking out an ugly win is better for team morale than a loss” would be more acceptable from Meyer as he at least takes cognizance of the SA rugby fan’s intellect …

I so agree with you Tank.

First time I’ve ever dozed off during a test. It reminded me too much of the Stormers defend ourselves into a coma approach.
