Boks tweaking gameplan

The HP manager is Rassie Erasmus. By the way.
Saru’s High Performance Manager admitted that the Springboks’ much-maligned kick-and-chase approach has been gradually losing its efficiency in recent seasons.
He was quick to add, however, that the Boks should not veer from their conservative gameplan but rather make minor changes to add more strings to their bow.

I don’t know what the relationship is between HP manager and Head coach or who is higher on the totem pole but it is encouraging to see or hear someone admit that our present game plan needs tweaking.
If you read the article further you will see what I also believe is the root cause of our problems. Burnout!! Yes folks Burnout!
By the time our players have finished playing the Super 15 they are exhausted and burned out and stale. No matter how much you love the game and enjoy watching or playing Saturday after Saturday, you have to admit that there is currently, just too much rugby.
Straight from Super rugby (With some tests thrown into the mix) the top players go into an extended Tri nation, Champions cup and then on to an end of year tour.
It is no wonder that the injury lists are so high. Bodies can only take so much abuse before breaking down.
Central contracts allowing player management to take control instead of money, will go a long way to strengthening our national team and increase the playing time of all bench/fringe players.
Brains must overcome greed and the National team must be able to dictate player game time or restrictions on playing time must be introduced and monitored.

Kiwi”s also shoulders a big workload. They just handle it better and also their gameplan requires that you gain entry by opening the door or the gate or jumping over the wall. The Boks must charge right through the wall or kick and run into the wall. Burnout? I cannot believe that our players is mentally much more frail than the Kiwi”s. A little more of Rassie and a lot less Heyneke might be very good for the Boks.

Better player management I think. Rassie also seems to think it’s burnout or staleness from overplaying. MU did a post last year with all the stats and our guys played way more rugby than others.

@Baylion I don’t expect any major changes from the side that played NZ. Obvious omission will be Greyling, not sure who will replace him, perhaps Coenie?

I am not expecting many changes to the group either but the start team is hopefully going to be slightly different

It will be interesting to see tonight’s Bok group

I agree there is too much Rugby, but folks from NZ will say they play just as much rugby. Maybe they just manage their players better?

I think they do. Their squad rotation policy is one of their strengths. Maybe player time should be stipulated by IRB.

The Kiwi SR players are contracted to the NZRU which gives them a say in player rotation and their All Blacks are spread across their franchises
Crusaders 9
Highlanders 6
Blues 5
Hurricanes 5
Chiefs 4

That’s how we should work too

I have been voicing that same concern for years now, and year on year, Proff Noakes warns our administrators that each year the career expectancy of a player decreases by some degree due to overload

Ja! You and me both. Maybe Rassie will get it right before it gets worse. It’s no wonder players go overseas. Less rugby for more pay. What a pleasure. Fourie and FdP in Japan both said the same thing
