A Springbok Backline of note.

September 14, 2012 in Uncategorized

Hear me out. At this stage any backline is better that the crap we’ve got now.

15. Gio Aplon  (Taute)

14. JP Pietersen

13. Pat Lambie  (de Jongh)

12. Frans Steyn

11. Mr Habana

10. Goosen  (Jantjies)

9. Hougaard  (Ruan)

Lambie is a eyebrow raiser, but I believe he could be a Phenominal outside centre

What do you think?

Let the Springbok Fans pick the side.

Now before you climb down my wind pipe or sing my praises, hear me out.

I never, never, never ever watch South African Football. I think we lack skill and are nowhere close to our counterparts in Europe or South America. Not even close.

But one think that stuck to me like peanut butter to a clean floor was or still is the way they market Football in South Africa.

One little piece of marketing genius is introduced, I think in the Black Label Cup, or something like that where the Fans of both teams could make changes to the respective teams come half time.

Now is that clever or what? I think so.

Why not do in Rugby as well? It could work. Yes I know you can’t do it at international level, but just imagine how great it would be or would have been to substitute Zane Kirchner and Morne Steyn come half time. Pity you can’t get involved sooner or even with the selection of the match day 22.

Ok, maybe it won’t work or maybe it’s just a little unrealistic, but hell, I wouldn’t mind.

Imagine the changes we (45 million) Springbok Fans make in a Test and we win the Test after we were trailing at half time. How stupid would the coach feel. LOL!

Would this then force him to start reading our blogs? Would he start listening to the Fans? Maybe not hey?

Too Early to change the Coach?

September 10, 2012 in Uncategorized

After yet another disappointing game on Saturday (so I hear and the fact that we lost), most of us are getting a bit tired of Heyneke Meyers’ poor excuses and poor decisions regarding player selections. Right or wrong? I will not hammer on player selections though, I think my fellow bloggers have covered that base exceptionally well over the last week or two.

So how can a man, a man we all called for and wished for now all of a sudden find himself public enemy NR1 and is it too soon to change the coaching staff?

Heyneke took over at the Bulls in 2000 and we all know where they ended up the following few seasons. Heyneke eventually took the Bulls to become Champions. Yes I know he is still coaching the same style now as he has done for the past 12 years. The fact is he took the Bulls from Nobodies to Champions.

Now there is 3 things I hate in life and they are:

-        The Bulls

-        Malema

-        Mugabe

Yes, in that order, but we cannot deny the fact that he won silverware with the Bulls, so he must have some sort of credibility as a Coach.

Any case, if we do decide to fire the coach, who will replace him? Mr. Coetzee? I don’t think so. Naka? Seriously?

The only option would be to get a foreign coach, who has NO affiliation whatsoever with any of the franchises. No Blue Goggles, no Snoek samies and no black and white.

We all know, as long as we have a SA coach, we will always have bias towards a certain franchise. It happened in 1995 and it is happening 17 years later.

We need to decide. Do we stick with Heyneke and his philosophies with the hope that he could bring success the same way he did with the Bulls? Or do we do what Liverpool do, and fire the coach after every 3rd game?

The Worst Combined Springbok Team Post 1999

September 4, 2012 in Uncategorized

At this stage I am so negative regarding SA rugby in general, whether it being the Springboks, Super rugby or Currie Cup. The Lions debacle left a sour taste and Heyneke Meyer is trying his upmost best to see if I can break my big screen tv. Maybe that’s the reason I have not watched any rugby for about 3 weeks now.

This is not another post to bash Meyer or the Lions, but a post about the worst combined Springbok team Post 1999. Laden with controversy it will be, but let’s have a look anyway.

Let’s start with the Coach. We’ve had some real Gems in the past. Viljoen, PDivvy and even Heyneke is making a charge but it is early days for him yet.

The worst coach Post 1999 must be Rudolf Straeuli

15. Zane Kirchner (our current backline coach could also feature, Ricardo Loubser)

14. Dean Hall

13. Jorrie Muller (Grant Esterhuisen)

12. Wynand Olivier (Wayne Julies)

11. Henno Mentz

10. Gaffie du Toit (when he played flyhalf) ( Derrick Hougaardt)

9. Dave von Hoeselin

8. Pierre Spies

7. Hilton Lobberts

6. Luke Watson

5. Geo Cronje

4. Quinton Davids

3. ?

2. Dale Sandton

1?

The reason for not including props is, most of them play or played on both sides and we struggled to get really useless ones that only stuck to a position. You can include a few if you want.

The list could go on if we added a bench.
