It’s not all bad

June 29, 2012 in Uncategorized

Right!

I have to admit that on Wednesday I was a bit down. Tuesday in Cape Town was rainy with the wind blowing from the side at 1000000km per hour. Too make things worse, this damn platform will take some time to sort out properly. I believe it will get better, I hope!

Anyway. So what do we do when we are down? Easy!

-        Have a braai, and by having a braai I mean don’t hold back. Meat, chicken wings, sausage, potato bake, braai broodjies. And what is a braai without Johnnie Walker Red, Black, Double Black, Green and Gold accompanied by 2 bottles of 2008 Merlot? (PS. It is a fact that Johnnie Walker will stop making Green Label L)

If you are thinking that all of this was over the top, well then, you would be spot on! I mean, you cannot give a 30 year old free reign. We were only 2 as my wife was out of town for the week (when the cat is away). Needless to say I phoned my Pa’s yesterday morning after sleeping till 8am and asked them to clear my diary for the day because I wasn’t feeling so good. I still reckon the chicken wings had something to do with it, but that’s just my guess.

Today I feel a lot better, because it’s Friday and the Sharks are 4 log point better off.

Happy Blogging and have a fantastic weekend.

PS. Stay away from chicken wings, I don’t want you to feel the way I did yesterday

Bad Rugby Timing

June 22, 2012 in Uncategorized

I like rugby just as much as any South African out there. Granted, we love rugby more than the British because let’s face it, who like supporting a worthless team anyway?

Moving swiftly along……

Tonight’s schedule is a bit baffling to say the least. You have 2 games to choose from. Normally not an issue, but tonight it is an issue.

Win or lose, these guys made us proud and deserve the whole of SA’s support and attention. Kick off it just after 7pm, if not mistaken

Then we have Barney’s Army. What an ambassador of world rugby. Also worthy of all of SA’s support and attention. What more can we say about this man?

So what to do? Channel hopping?

One would have hoped that somewhere, someone with half a brain cell would have been clever enough to have these two very important games at different time slots.

Personally I would have had one of the games as a curtain raiser to one of the Tests between SA and England. How nice would that have been? 2 quality games at the same venue. What a outing it would have been.

Again, have a great weekend

The Cup stays here

June 22, 2012 in Uncategorized

Today is the day. It might be one of the biggest days in
some of these young men’s lives. Are they under pressure? Hell yes!

Good luck BOYTJIES. Make us proud. Let’s keep the CUP in SA.
30000 people will be there to cheer you on (hopefully the South African All
Blacks will stay at home) , and another 50million at home.

I know I will watch this one instead of the Barney’s Army
match

Like we say in Afrikaans……..”GEE DIE WINDHOND GAS”!

Cheers, have a fantastic weekend

SA vs England, 2nd Test stats!

June 20, 2012 in Uncategorized

The following STATS is thanks to Sharksworld Rugby Website.

What is interesting to note is the Stats for Morne Steyn. ZERO tackles missed and with the second most running meters. The only STAT not in his favour was his main job, and that is kicking at goal. Also have a look at Marcell Coetzee. This guy is a machine.

South Africa shaded the possession stakes overall, controlling the ball for 43 minutes against 37, exactly the same figures as the week before. England had to make more tackles (122 v 96), but the Boks’ success rate was much higher this week, while England’s was a fair bit worse (England 81%, SA 92%). The Boks conceded 12 penalties to England’s 13, losing 3 set pieces to England’s 5.

Marcell Coetzee was the best tackler by quite some distance, with 13 tackles and a 100% success rate. Eben Etzebeth, with 8 from 8, came second, with Morne Steyn and Francois HJougaard (7 from 7 each) were joint third. The only player to miss more than 1 tackle in the match was JP Pietersen, who missed 2 from 8 attempts.

Pietersen topped the metres gained stat, with 126, which was just ahead of Morne Steyn’s 120. Coetzee was third (and best of the forwards) with 82m. JP also made the most linebreaks, with 4 of the 6 in total that the team managed credited to him. Frans Steyn (5) made the most offloads, ahead of Bismarck du Plessis (2). Pierre Spies (9) and Frans Steyn (7) made the most passes outside the halfbacks.

The two locks were the work horses at ruck time, with Etzebeth hitting 27 and Juandre Kruger 24. Willem Alberts and Jannie du Plessis (22 each) were joint third. Pietersen hit the most ruck amongst the backs, with 11.

Etzebeth, Beast Mtawarira and Coetzee each conceded two penalties but with the error rate so low this week, it doesn’t seem fair to single out anyone especially, since no player was credited with more than 3 individual errors in total across the metrics we look at (penalties, missed tackles, lost possession).

Most Valuable Player is also not that straight forward this week, given that a few people almost stood out (stats-wise) with nobody really being head and shoulders above the rest. On the balance of these unmbers, though, we’ll give it to JP Pietersen, for his fine work with ball in hand. Honourable mentions go to Spies and Coetzee, with Eben Etzebeth our official runner up.

Cheers!

SABC and Super Sport at it again!

June 14, 2012 in Uncategorized

What
do we as South Africans love most of all? Well, most of the time anyway?

Its
winter and its rugby season.

We
love to braai (wood, not charcoal), have a Klippies and Coke ( in my case a
Johnnie Walker) and watching rugby. 3 Simple things that makes us very, very
happy.

Now,
like Labachtanai mentioned last week, the SABC does not show the rugby anymore.
What’s the problem with that?

1.
Not
everyone has DSTV to watch the game at home therefore they have to go to
friends or go to a pub. Going to a pub cost money because you can’t just pull
in there and watch the game without having to buy something.

2.
You
are deprived of your afternoon braai with  Klippies and Coke in the comfort of your own
home.

Yes
I grasp the fact that give the masses what they want, but at some stage even Soweto
must be getting “gatvol” of Bafana Bafana slipping down the world rankings on a
weekly basis. SABC even shows Netball for goodness sake.

Rugby
is part of our culture. We are actually not bad at it, why not show it? Money
changed everything and I blame 60% of it on Super Sport. Luckily I do have DSTV
and I can’t imagine not watching the game at all, so I feel sorry for the
people that can’t

Come
on SABC and Super Sport, give the people what they want. Stop thinking about
filling your coffers for once, you are not the ANC.

Did I spot Kitchener this weekend?

June 11, 2012 in Uncategorized

So rumour had it that Lord Kitchener resides in George. I happened to spend my weekend there, bloody cold it was to. On my way to a friend’s house to watch the game I drove past a car with the above number plate and I thought to myself that this has to be Kitchener, surely! Although I didn’t see him in person, I was 100% sure it was him…

On my way back from the game later the evening I drove past the house again (it was in the same street we stayed in) and spotted a car next to his with the number plate below. Surely this was Lord Lucan coming over to give old Kitch a shoulder to cry on.

Although this could not be confirmed I am certain this was them.

Southern Hemisphere 3 Northern Hemiphere 0

June 10, 2012 in Uncategorized

After yesterday’s whitewash of Southern Hemisphere rugby
teams vs. the Northern Hemisphere wannebies I decided to delve into the history
books

Since records were kept the following Stats were available:

A total of 345 games were played with the Southern
Hemisphere teams winning 260 of them and 10 draws in between. This means that
the Northern Hemisphere teams won only 75 times.

SH teams scored 8389 points whilst only conceding 4435

Now why bring this up?

We have 2 very clever Poms on our sites that tell us week in
and week out that Northern Hemisphere rugby is Superior than that of the
Southern Hemisphere.

Hmmmmm, guess again you 2 ignorant, over educated twits.

From now on you must rather stick to correcting grammar
mistakes instead of trying to sound clever when you talk about rugby, because
you are not.

It was never a debate

Cheers!

Ope Brief aan Heyneke (snaakserig)

June 6, 2012 in Uncategorized

First of all, I received this email from a buddy and thought that I have to pass it on. Enjoy!

Liewe oom Heyneke

My naam is Hein en ek ken rugby nie so goed soos oom

Toe oom ‘n
paar maande gelede aangestel is het ek gesê dat oom net kom kak droogmaak. Dat
oom net Bloubulle gaan oorweeg vir Springbokspanne. Lyk my ek was reg. Oom is 0

Of dink oom ek is dom omdat ek rugby nie so goed as oom

dis my eerlike mening.
‘n kak span.

Hy sê oom het bloubul mentaliteit. Ek is nie seker wat
hy daarmee bedoel het nie. Hy vra of jy vir JJ Engelbrecht sou gekies het as hy
vir die Stormers sou gespeel het?

Ek dink ook nie so nie. My Boetie sê hy wil ‘n
afrigters te baklei by klubwedstryde.

Hy woon ook Saterdag se toets by. Ek dog ek sê dit maar
net.

So oom moet liewer ‘n verteenwoordigende span kies of oom gaan oom

ander Bok-supporters.

Liefde
Poemie De Blitz

Welcome England

June 1, 2012 in Uncategorized

The Poms arrived in SA yesterday. May I be the first one (correct me if I’m wrong) to welcome them to our shores. It’s going to be a brutal few weeks and I am looking forward to it.

This being said, I do have 2 requests for the English:

1) Please leave our women alone! We know we have far better looking and skinny women than what the small Island can dish up! (thanks Burger King, Mc Donalds and Co)

2) We know the Pound favors you greatly when you visit our shores, but please leave some alcohol for as as well!

Enjoy your stay!
