A neutral at Newlands

March 30, 2012 in Uncategorized

Tomorrow is the big game, and as a season ticket holder I will go and support the rugby as a Neutral. I will wear the above shirt, hopefully without pissing to many supporters off.

Sharks forever!

Have a great weekend

Mallett out, Lancaster in

March 29, 2012 in Uncategorized

So, Mallett didn’t make the cut to be England coach. Not a bad thing at all.

We can say about England what we want, but I think they made the right choice. Its always a good idea to have a coach who is from that country. And lets be honest, he did a better job as caretaker coach than what Martin Johson did?

Apologies for lack of paragraphs, I-Pad makes it a bit difficult.

Levi and Smith

March 23, 2012 in Uncategorized

I sometimes sit at Gym in the morning and watch, amongst others things, at the television. Doing it whilst looking in a mirror, you see that a right handed batsmen is now a left handed batsmen and the same goes with kickers in a rugby match.

I could not help but make the comparison there and then between Richard Levi and Graeme Smith. Both are very obviously opening batsmen and both are also obviously very much On-Side orientated batsmen.

At this stage you might tell me that, that is old news and thanks for that useless bit of info. My post however is about what our ex-captain, Mr. Wessel had to say and I quote, “Opposition teams at international level do their homework. They have already worked out that having a left-arm seam bowler bowling wide of off stump is an effective ploy against Levi.”

This might be true and well observed my Wessels, but Smith and Levi for that matter, have for years and will for the rest of their careers only be on-side players. Trying to change him now will not work. Smith scored thousands of runs on the leg side and its only Huggo that’s calling for his head.

My feeling is, leave Levi alone and let him just concentrate on his batting. He will adjust if he feels the need to.

On a more somber note. I managed to post a picture of my new vehicle as a comment thanks to Powa with his advice on how to, only to discover that this morning the entire Blog was gone. Now, I didn’t comment at that stage on a Hugo Blog and we all know it’s only he that would delete Blogs, so, where the hell did it go?

Shame on you, “Stormers” supporters!

March 17, 2012 in Uncategorized

Short, sweet and to the point.

I went to Newlands on Friday evening to watch the Stormers take on the Blues. Yes, I am a Sharks supporter with Newlands season tickets, but I was there to support the Stormers because we are patriotic, aren’t we?

This question was quickly answered when the stadium announcer asked for a minute silence in remembrance of Jock Hobbs. Now here is where we can learn from the Northern Hemisphere supporters. When they ask for silence you can hear a pin drop. Not so last night. Yes there was silence, but there were also a few idiots on the railway stand whistling, a clear lack of respect and also a lack of a proper education.

It did not surprise me at all when I looked back to find that they were wearing All Black jerseys. These were the same people that were booing Joe Petersen whenever he lined up a kick at the posts.

Its been said by these supporters in the past that they support the All Black because of what happened during apartheid. This last night coming from a 25 year old that wasn’t even part of apartheid in Afrikaans NOGALS! What a idiot. He must be friends with Black Beauty.

So my evening of enjoyment ended up with a bitter taste because of this.

I say that we need to take the same approach as the English football clubs. have 90% of the stadium available to Stormers or in other cases, the home union supporters. The visiting team or Mitchells Plain residents can have the 10% in the corner.

Have a great rest of your weekend

The Kings/Spears in the 6Nations?

March 12, 2012 in Uncategorized

First of all, congratulations to the Tea drinkers for beating a very poor, clearly below par French team yesterday.

I have a solution for SARU and ZANZAR for that matter. Bring the Kings/Spears into Super rugby by all means, but do this in 2014. The following idea sprung to mind as I was watching a very ordinary, sub standard game of rugby last night.

My suggestion is the following:

Let the Kings/Spears participate in the 2013 6 Nations. The quality of rugby dished up in this tournament would be of great benefit to a team trying to establish itself in tournaments of  the caliber that is Super Rugby and the best competition in the world, the Currie Cup. With the exception of France and Wales, which I think might run them close, I don’t see them breaking a sweat when it comes to the other teams.

The Kings/Spears would still struggle in Super and Currie Cup rugby, but the “stiffer” competition in the 6 nations would do them good, maybe not toughen them up as much as we would like, because let’s face it, tackling a English player is like tackling a punching bag, not much resistance.

So SARU/SANZAR, do the right thing. Let the Kings/Spears play in a weaker Northern Hemisphere competition rather than throwing them into the deep end which is the Superior Southern Hemisphere tournaments.

Cheers

Will the Kings be good enough?

March 9, 2012 in Uncategorized

The Kings nearly managed to sneak by without a mention. This topic is and was on many a mind for different reasons. The wait is finally over.
Today the much anticipated Vodacom Cup starts. Its not as high profile as Super Rugby, the Currie Cup or the Tri Nations but a little more so than the 6 Nations or snoooooooooze fest as I like to call it.
Why the anticipation? Easy! The EP Kings or Spears are playing the Pampas XV and if you cast your mind back to the last few weeks, the Kings were on all Bloggers minds and extracted a lot of comments, some positive, but mostly negative.
I for one will watch, for the first time I might add, just to see if the Kings would be able to play Super Rugby next year for one, and secondly be able to cope this year with the added pressure of knowing that everyone wants them to fail and that nobody really wants them to play Super Rugby next year.
Would they be able to win the Vodacom Cup and show everybody that they might belong, or would they fail like we all predicted.
Time will tell
Have a great sporting weekend

Hugo VS Kitch, who’s your money on?

March 7, 2012 in Uncategorized

                            vs

So, the last few days we had fun. Let’s face it, nothing gives us more pleasure than seeing Kitch and Hugo going at each other, calling each other names and accusing each other of this and that.

Now, we have all heard of the RUMBLE in the JUNGLE, ALI vs FOREMAN. I would like to see, and pay very good money for that matter to see Kitch go 12 rounds against Hugo. Who would win? What could we call this fight? Slogs on the Blogs? Who knows, maybe some input from our fellow bloggers is needed.

Cheers!

Summary

March 5, 2012 in Uncategorized

The weekend that passed

For the first time in about forever, I have a very quite Monday at work. And what better way to spend it than reading fellow bloggers posts and comments.

I decided to post a basic summary of what I believe to be some “highlights”.

Let us start:

Super Rugby is in full swing and many bloggers support their teams, so far, through thick and thin and some tempers are at boiling point and rightly so. I even read somewhere that a person changed teams. Is this at all possible? The Stormers and Bulls look like contenders thus far, the Sharks(my team) need to sort out their act and the Lions and Cheetahs are fighting for survival already(again, this is what fellow bloggers think).

The Proteas are doing us proud and barring weather playing a part, I doubt the Kiwis would cause us any problems. I am believer that cricket should not be played in 9-10 degree weather, but hey, you play the conditions and what is put in front of you. The Ausies and Sri Lanka are playing good cricket at the moment and this series could go either way.

The record for most goals in a game is about 40 odd, if I’m not mistaken, held by the Ausies against who knows who. This weekend 24 goals were scored in S.A and somehow this made front page news. It looks like a 2 horse race in England where one thing is for sure, the Title will stay in Manchester. I had the unfortunate pleasure of being a United supporter at Whiteheart Lane once, where we lost 3-1 on the day. It was nice to see a empty stadium 10min before the end of the game.

Rory is the number 1 golfer in the world at the tender age of 22. Tiger remains the youngest ever at 21.

Like everybody else, my SuperBru is shot to shit, but like someone mentioned, it’s still early days. Good luck to all playing.

TruVanPunt or TruVanC@nt as Kitch calls him, deleted a post this morning for some reason. I can only guess that he couldn’t take any more insults therefore the deleted post. My advice for what it’s worth is this, take it on the chin and move on. Don’t delete posts.

That’s about that, works needs to be done.

Cheers

Newlands

March 2, 2012 in Uncategorized

As a Sharks Supporter, I urge WP to please start alterations or demolishment of Newslands ASAP. Could you also do it before tomorrows game?

Could we (Sharks) claim the points then?

Many thanks!
