We are privileged

May 8, 2013 in Uncategorized

That we are indeed.
If you look back at the sporting greats over the last 2 decades and great sporting teams over the last few years, then you must count yourself very lucky to have lived through it all.
Every sporting code produced someone or a team whose achievements would never be bettered, not in our lifetime anyway.
We look at Jack Nicklaus (before my time) and Tiger Woods in golf
Mick Doohan, Valentino Rossi, Shumi, Loeb and McRae in motorsport
Michael Phelps in swimmingTennis had Pete Sampras, Martina, Steffi Graff and now Mr. Federer
Kallis, Warne and Tendulkar in cricket, as well as the Ausie cricket team of the late 90’s and early 2000’s
I hate to say this, but the All Black rugby team
Barcelona and in particular that short little shit called Messi. Sir Alex whose managerial record will never be broken.
The list could go on forever, but hell……we’ve been lucky to witness it all.
Years from now we could even tell our grand children that the Lions once also played in the Super 15.

Meng jou met die semels, dan vreet die varke jou op!

April 19, 2013 in Uncategorized

When oh when will the Sharks learn?

My heading says: “meng jou met die semels, dan vreet die varke jou op”. Directly translated in to English it reads…..If you have to many Lions player in your team, you will be shit!!!!!

I read this morning that my beloved Sharks ( I have to admit that I have not watched one game yet) have signed on another 3 unknown under achievers from up north. Hell, look at the wonderful contributions that Messers Jantjies and Taute are adding to the Stompies at present. By having these players ( Varcity Cup Quality, and that is actually an insult to the VC Players) in your squad will have severe consequences to their play off aspirations. I am die M@&r in to say the least.

Anyway now that i have let off some steam……….How are these damn Kings hey? What a breath of fresh air! Not only are their away record better than a combined Lions away record over the last 10 years, but they have already had more supporters come through the gates than what the Lions could manage. This alone should sway SARU into GIFTING the Kings another season, whatever the outcome of this years tournament. So here are my top 3 reasons why the Kings should stay. Feel free to add yours:

1) they are competative

2) they have great support, they actually fill the stadium

3) did I mention that they are competative?

Hope you Guys and Gals have a lovely weekend. I will be away, Again :)

Here is a little joke….

The Lions rugby practice was
delayed nearly two hours
today after a player reported finding an unknown
white powdery substance on the practice field.

The coach immediately
suspended practice while police
and forensic investigators were called to
investigate.

After a complete analysis, investigating forensic experts
determined that the white substance unknown to players was the try
line in a Super Rugby game

Practice was resumed after special agents decided the team was
unlikely to encounter the substance again.

The World as we know it is ending!

March 11, 2013 in Uncategorized

My sabbatical against rugby, or sport for that matter is still on- going, but I am forced to write this post because I believe the world is ending.  In light of happenings over the weekend I feel that we have to enjoy the last few days on earth. If you have a long lost love, now is the time to tell her/him.

So, what the hell am I talking about?

1)      Saturday morning I get a call from a friend telling me the Cheetahs won, in New Zealand nogals, against a strong side. Not only did they win, but they won handsomely. That is Strike one!

2)      My beloved Sharks scraped a win against a side many thought would be pushovers. We all know the Sharks like playing at Boet Erasmus as much as the Stormers love attacking rugby or as much as Wynand Olivier loves to pass a ball. Strike two!! Oh, and the Stormers won, against the Champions, and scored more tries in this game than what they did the whole of last season.

3)      My boet is a huge Bulls fan and was visiting this weekend. I get woken up at an very early hour on Sunday when I hear a loud shout from the lounge that the Moffies in Pink won for the first time, yes the first time in Auckland against a side many thinks could go all the way. Strike three!!!

And that is just the rugby.

I am now looking for a contractor to start digging a hole in the middle of my lounge, underneath the pool table. This I will use as shelter for when the world comes to an end.

What a weird weekend. Enjoy your week and good luck to the Lions this weekend!

Please, can somebody tell me how to take this whole “awaiting comment moderation” crap off?

Lets get behind Bafana Bafana…..seriously?

January 15, 2013 in Uncategorized

I read an article, well just the heading anyway of Jacob Zuma saying that there are to many critics when it comes to Bafana Bafana.

Seriously? I wonder why? They are ranked a zillionth in the universe. Not really much to shout for anyways!

I also read Met Uysh’s post regarding the Proteas being to white. Again, SERIOUSLY? How many white players in the Bafana Bafana team? Is it that the lack of white players could be the problem with with the Football team? Was it not a white Captain in Neil Tovey that last won any silverwear for Bafana Bafana with a white coach at the helm?

This is just typical of this country. As soon as something goes right then the damn ANC has to come and find a way to FUCK it up. Sorry for the language, but I am Gatvol of this!

No wonder I find something else to do on a Saturday, rather than watching sport!

“Kaap Krusaders”

January 3, 2013 in Uncategorized

I am currently watching the Proteas beating the living daylights out of the Black Caps.

Am I the only one that thinks that these okes are nothing more than avarage provincial players? How many of those Kiwi’s would make a SA B team, if any? OK, may McCullum, but also just maybe.

I would have preferred seeing Aus, Eng or India over the holidays. CSA would have made more money by having more bums on seats and by having more than 3 days play. How much revenue is lost by not having a full 5 days? Think of all the hot dog vendors etc.

I hope CSA learnt a lesson!

Coming back to our beloved friends from Mitchells Plain who support the All Blacks, who cant speak a word of English, who thinks New Zealand is in the Northern Hemisphere just east of Uzbekistan and who thinks Sean Fitzpatrick was the best ref since Bryce Lawrence.

Are they supporting the Black Caps as well? Sorry, let me put that in a language they will understand……..Support julle the Kiwi’s in krieket ook my Bru?

I wonder

Kitchener found?

http://www.facebook.com/henryhoratio.kitchener, his Facebook page.

Below a comment made by “him” on a story of the Kings.

henryhoratio.kitchener – December 18, 2012 at 15:52
O goodness chaps, this seems a bit of a cheecky move, pardon the pun, if your SARU bend to the pressure of the Kings, who is truly the ruling body of rugga in South Africa?
or is it a clone?
Come out, come out, wherever you are! Hugo misses you!

Facebook got rid of Lawrence, could the same happen with the Kings?

October 17, 2012 in Uncategorized

So Bryce Lawrence decided to retire from being a ref.

He said and I quote, “On Facebook they launched a ‘get rid of Bryce Lawrence’ site and it was pretty nasty.”

He is now starting to come out with the truth. And it seems like Mr O.Neill had much to do with his performances or lack there off anyway.

I read an interesting comment and it made me think. Could social media have such a big impact on individuals in the way that this did? If so, then people are very easily manipulated.

Would this work if a Facebook group called “ get rid of the Kings” were started. Would this put pressure on SARU to come out with the truth, even if it is a year down the line?

Food for thought

The Rolls Royce is on the Bench!

October 11, 2012 in Uncategorized

Christian Cullen

Do you remember this guy? I do. He was one hell of a rugby player, and along with Jeff Wilson and Jonah Lomu, theeeeeeeee most feared back three in world rugby. They didnt kick, or when they did it was an attacking kick to try and retain the ball. They ran the ball from any damn place on the rugby field. This man was class.

Pat Lambie

Now we all know this guy. He is our Christian Cullen. Running from anywhere and only kicking when he feels the need to. Any team in world rugby would want this guy at 15 along with players like Aplon, Taute, Ludick and Joe Pietersen. Yet we have them warming the bench and giving out the oranges at half-time.

Zane Kirchner is nothing spectacular. He does his job, ie. Catch the ball, tackle now and again and kick the ball back to the opposition to only run it back at us. I cant recall, maybe it’s because I dont watch rugby that much anymore, but I have never seen Zane run the ball back at the opposition, EVER! He only joins the line 5m out from the tryline. Now, I was a fullback and scrumhalf in my time, and I was coached to join the backline from fullback on attack to try and establish a overlap as much as possible. Why cant he?

The point I’m trying to make is this. Zane is 28, the likes of Lambie, Taute etc. have an average age of less than 22. Time to look at the future and bring these okes in. NZ and AUZ have always played their youngsters. Look at Cullen, Lomu, Wilson, Larkham, Cooper, O’Conner. All youngsters!

The time is now, either play them or lose them to the Frogs or the damn English.

A Springbok Backline of note.

September 14, 2012 in Uncategorized

Hear me out. At this stage any backline is better that the crap we’ve got now.

15. Gio Aplon  (Taute)

14. JP Pietersen

13. Pat Lambie  (de Jongh)

12. Frans Steyn

11. Mr Habana

10. Goosen  (Jantjies)

9. Hougaard  (Ruan)

Lambie is a eyebrow raiser, but I believe he could be a Phenominal outside centre

What do you think?

Let the Springbok Fans pick the side.

September 11, 2012 in Uncategorized

Now before you climb down my wind pipe or sing my praises, hear me out.

I never, never, never ever watch South African Football. I think we lack skill and are nowhere close to our counterparts in Europe or South America. Not even close.

But one think that stuck to me like peanut butter to a clean floor was or still is the way they market Football in South Africa.

One little piece of marketing genius is introduced, I think in the Black Label Cup, or something like that where the Fans of both teams could make changes to the respective teams come half time.

Now is that clever or what? I think so.

Why not do in Rugby as well? It could work. Yes I know you can’t do it at international level, but just imagine how great it would be or would have been to substitute Zane Kirchner and Morne Steyn come half time. Pity you can’t get involved sooner or even with the selection of the match day 22.

Ok, maybe it won’t work or maybe it’s just a little unrealistic, but hell, I wouldn’t mind.

Imagine the changes we (45 million) Springbok Fans make in a Test and we win the Test after we were trailing at half time. How stupid would the coach feel. LOL!

Would this then force him to start reading our blogs? Would he start listening to the Fans? Maybe not hey?
