Choke jokers

To be honest I just couldn’t get excited about the cricket WC this year. I’ve been dissapointed so many times by the choking Proteas that I’ve lost all interest in them.

I just knew they were going to choke again and there it is they’ve done it yet again against New Zealand of all sides. New Zealand cricket has been in the dumbs the last 3 years. Really poor. Some reasonable talent but very poor execution.

For this talented SA side with so much bowling and batting dept to lose in such a way against a team struggling to find itself is just an absolute disgrace.

I think SA cricket has to be complimented for the strides they’ve taken in the right direction in terms of more versatility in the side (like I’ve said in my previous post) but this is just too much for this supporter the handle.

To lose if you have a poor team or against a really good team -playing some outstanding cricket- that I can handle. Throwing your wickets away with poor batting and poor running, that I can’t handle. Losing, while you have one of the most versatile and talented sides in the history of SA cricket, against one of poorest performing teams over the last 4 years is too make an absolute mockery of yourself.

Too many withdrawls from my emotional bankaccount when it come to the Proteas. It will take A LOT to get me excited about SA cricket again, if ever. They will always have my support but -like it has been over the last 4 years- it will remain a case of the black sheep brother in jail. You love him but you expect the worse and you don’t talk about him.

Ooch Proteas this one hurts. It really hurts.

  1. These guys , the whole lot of them are big on talk and denial as are our selectors but a little thin on substance and delivery. However as long as we continue to deny the tempramental weakness of Kallis( even with his incredible array of statistsics and achievments) , De Villiers and Duminy we simply can not succeed. Delivery on the day is what counts and as usual it is a case of the usual suspects and predictable failures and this is now undeniable. Should we just accept that an apalling failure in a quarter final (against a side which was recently murdered by Bangladesh on this ground and at best is ordinary) is the best we can ever hope for ? If so lets accept that and move on. Whatever way you look at it zero expectation produces zero dissppointment. We continue to select a middle order which has no back bone and no appetite for a fight and look to the likes of Du Plessis Pietersen, Botha and co to get us over the finish line while the senior batsmen look on from the change rooms and continue to expect results. That is just stupidity and De Villies and Duminy in particular fail every time under pressure and I mean every time including at provincial level yet are cointinually positioned as automatic selections. From the word go the selection was flawed andunbalanced and never at any time had enough depth in batting or allrounders to be succesful. This at the end of the day was purely predictable.

  2. Bizarre.

Not wishing to rub it in, but we here in NZ have given up on our useless cricket team months ago. No one really expects us to win this thing. But then again, if it is a one-off game, past records count for very little once you the under dog gets a bit of luck and momentum.

You may be rightly pissed off, but this is the reality of sport. If you were guaranteed a win, no one would bother watching. If it is any consolation, you do have a great cricket team. How many Kiwis would make your line up?

Just like our rugby team was the best in the world four years ago, when we lost to what would have to rate as the worst French team in 30 years.

  3. Big on talk and poor at execution. I totally agree and to make it worse it is the young ones who have not yet proven themselves that does the big talking.

Midway during the England game Peterson said he reckons they’ve got the match in the bag or something to that extend.

Before this game Du Plessis said in the media the Proeteas will have too much depth for the Kiwis.

    Yeah right.

  4. You hit the nail on the head regarding Kallis. He might be one of the best ever but he has never been able -or very rarely against weak opposition- to turn big matches with his batting or bowling.

The critism against Kallis started during the previous WC when he played that shockingly slow innings against the West Indies.

  5. Duminy shouldn’t have been in the side at all based on his performances over the year preceding this WC. Albie Morkel could have won this match for us and would have been a far better choice than this little arogant brat.

You are right about AB as well. Way to sure of himself and rarely able to deliver in big matches when it really matters.

  6. I’ve had it with this team after they went and lost a series against Aussie in SA two years back.

They won the Aussies in Australia and then went home and lost against them in SA.

That and the previous two WC perfomances was it for me. They will NEVER win the WC and I’ve made may peace with that.

  7. It’s funny. I commented last night after the interviews how humble and modest the entire NZ team looks – no arrogance or ego, just down to earth attitudes and characteristics.

Looks like that filters down to their fans.

    Good man Kimbo.

  8. SA does it in cricket, ERngland in football and NZ in rugby. I am sooo disapointed this time. The team should have won easily and after battling through the Indian game my belief in their ability to perform better this tournament was butressed. Damn it!
