US OPEN
June 15, 2012 in Uncategorized
So the US Open started last night. It’s my 3rd favorite Major behind The Masters and the British Open, but it is still an exciting time if you are a golf lover.
Defending champion Rory McIlroy is a real contended as is Tiger Woods, who appears to be turning the corner, his game is becoming more consistent and his putting better.
Other contenders are the 3 Englishman Lee Westwood, Justin Rose and Luke Donald, the young SA guns Oosthuizen and Schwartzel as well as a slew of young US players that appear to be making their mark in world golf (Dustin, Bubba, Kutchar, Watney etc)
Also Adam Scot, McDowell and Kaymer should do well.
It’s a very “open” Open with the seasoned players like, Mickelson, Furyk, Ernie and Cabrera all able to claim the top prize.
This year the US Open is being held at the Olympic Club (established 1860) in San Francisco California.
Below the previous winners since 2000 the US Open first played in 1895:

Update after Day 1
Little known American, Thompson heads the field at 4 under with Tiger looking very good in second place with McDowell, Rose, Watney and Toms at 1 under.
Furyk, Kuchar and Poulter are also very placed at even par after the first round.
Brendan Grace is the best placed South African at 1 over, Schwartzel had a slow start and is at 3 over, with Ernie, Retief, Oosthuizen, Immelman and Clark all well of the pace, with the latter 3 looking like they will miss the cut.
World number one Luke Donald shot a disappointing 79 (9 over) and Rory is at 7 over.
Enjoy the Golf

It’s your 3rd favorite? Wow, there’s only 4 majors, so the US open must be something special to rank 3rd
