Seeing that it is Old Trafford and that Fergie as well as his players would want to prove a point and reverse the dissappointment of last season's 1 - 6 defeat at Old trafford, i firmly believe they should start the game as favourites. However i would not put all my eggs in one basket! City's record against United is respectable of late. I have seen City vunarable at the back this season but with Kompany back they look more solid, if United want to beat them they should control the midfeild and nuetralize Yaya Toure and David Silva, when you cut the supply line to Agurero, Tevez and Dzeko then City seems pretty ordinary, the same can be said about United. I believe Rooney will play a vital part in this game and will be entrusted to play just behind Van Persie as well as to track back and close down Toure. Certainly a game i can see either side winning but i do agree with you that United will be victorious.

Wayne, I forgot to ask you in my earlier post. What are your feelings for the derby match on Monday? It pains me to say it but I'm expecting Man Utd to make a real statement with a quality performance in what could be argued as their last meaningful challenge of the season. With a first-choice selection from Sir Alex - and Nani nowhere near the team - I'm predicting 3-1 Utd! What do you think?

15pts clear and a certain EPL title - a record 20th English League crown -.....what a 'disaster' for Man Utd?!

You do raise the interesting topic of Ferguson's eventual retirement, a prospect that I am sure fills Man Utd fans with dread. Fergie is the most important factor in Utd's success bar none and his departure will be felt deeply at Old Trafford. But I cannot see it happening just yet. Had he secured the 20th league title alongside another Champions League then I could perhaps see Utd's greatest ever manager retiring on the ultimate high. But his record in Europe has been average at best with the resources at his disposal and a near-uninterrupted participation in European football since English clubs were readmitted after the 1980's blanket-ban. Just two European Cups - and one Cup-Winners Cup - is a poor return for a club of Utd's stature and taking into account their domestic dominance. I fancy Sir Alex will crave at least one more crack at the Champions League.

I agree with your view that Utd actually lost the FA Cup tie when they threw away that 2-0 lead in the first match at home. Utd could have been 4-0 ahead, yet conspired to gift Chelsea a lifeline. Thy were always going to be second-favourites at Stamford Bridge. But I do agree with you that his team selection seemed odd. He seemed to prioritise the league match at Sunderland - despite the cushion of a 15pt lead - but I am sure Utd's squad players could have beaten a desperately poor Sunderland and thus saved the top players for the Chelsea fixture. I have seen Valencia perform well at right-back but I shared your shock that Fergie picked him against such a talented Chelsea attack. Jones in midfield was presumably entrusted with closing down Mata, Oscar and Hazard while Hernandez has a great record against Chelsea. I'm a big fan of the little Mexican and would have him start ahead of Welbeck every day of the week! Nani was abysmal though - surely he will leave Utd in the summer - and I just cannot see what Tom Cleverley offers a team with Utd's ambition? RVP should have started too - he is Utd's main goal threat as proven by his crucial strikes throughout the season until recent weeks - and it is no coincidence that Utd won against Sunderland - he started - and lost to Chelsea - he came off the bench.

I cannot see Bale joining Utd but I do think they will make some big moves in the summer. Nani, Anderson, Ashley Young and possibly Wayne Rooney could all leave. I see a move for Leighton Baines and perhaps Marouane Fellaini from Everton to strengthen Utd's first team. The exciting prospect Zaha will already be arriving from Crystal Palace too. And I've said this before but if I was Man Utd I would make a seismic statement of intent by bidding for Jack Wilshere from one-time rivals Arsenal! Yes his fitness record is poor - overplayed by Wenger - but what better way to hammer your former rival further towards mediocrity than by stealing their last remaining asset? Wilshere would be a great addition to Utd's fluid midfield....and a bid from Old Trafford would seriously test his personal ambition being that Arsenal have never look further away from winning a trophy!

Yes! He needs to go. He is the most overrated manager ever. Doesn't see things until its too late. I'm convinced he doesn't know the difference between an average player and a good one because our squad is filled with average players. Mourinho or guardiola would eclipse his record easily given the chance. Should have retired years ago.

When Alex Ferguson joined Man Utd in 1986, his first comments were, "I want to knock Liverpool off thier perch". Back then Man Utd were living in the shadow of Liverpool. Now Liverpool is not even top 4 material for the last 3 seasons or so. Maybe they are now fallen giants of the game. Similar to Benfica, Napoli, Roma. Will they ever come back? I can't see Ferguson finishing off soon. There is one competition that Liverpool can boast to be England's premier team, and that's the European Cup( now Champions League). 5-3 to Liverpool. Ferguson ain't going to retire my friend.

Fa CUP is a washed up competition. I personally don't give a crap about it. Chelsea can go and win it.

Rooney was probably left out of the Real game because United needed real pace up front. Tactic was to catch Real on the break. Welbeck and Nani were ideal for that.

I don't rate Michael Carrick. Average midfielder who can only play against weak opposition. There was a player for United who played well in the Midfield against Real at Old Trafford. Can't remember his name, but he impressed.

Any case. This is just my opinion and I am not a Manchester United fan.

Look, I understand your frustrations, but I understand the reasoning behind his team selection. On paper the side was not bad at all.
1 The team was selected because he has a date with Manchester City a week from now. No Rooney because he is nursing a niggle. Van Persie hasn't been in top form for the last 10 games. Kagawa is not ready for the big games. Jones is a better holding midfielder then a rightback. Rafael is injured. Wellbeck was our best forward, he holds the ball well and chases like a demon.
Just getting rid of a coach that has won so many silverware is not the way to go, and even if they do decide to get rid of him, he will still have the final say as to who will fill his void.
