Golfing Bokke

What a weekend for our golfers! Thomas Aiken won the Avanta Masters for his second Euro win, he also become the second SA winner in consecutive years after Jbe Kruger won this event last year. Jbe himself failed to make the cut and thus continue his bad form since he won this tournament. But he is a talented and determent character and I believe it’s only a matter of time before he flies high again. Back to Aiken: before his break through win almost two years ago, he was seen as an under achiever, someone who had a great amateur career but struggled with the enormous pressure in the professional game. He racked up a lot of top 10’s and second places but always seems to stumble over the last hurdle….Now I believe the “ice is broken” and although he struggled the 1st year after he’s 1st win, I actually called that he would win this year again (my money though was on one of the co-sanctioned Sunshine tour events).

On the US PGA Tour George Coetzee was doing the most with his sponsors invitation and was co-leading after the 3rd round, but unfortunately he faded away in the last round and finished T17 after a 74.  I see both him and Brandon Grace recieved invites into this weekend’s Arnold Palmer Invitational, so hopefully this will prepare them well for the upcoming Masters whereby both of them will be making their debuts.

On the Sunshine tour Jaco van Zyl won the Telkom PGA Championship (one of SA’s majors), this is his second Sunshine Tour win of the seoson and he will be hoping this will lead to greater success in Europ later this year. This win also took Jaco to the top of the Investec Cup rankings and with the final event this weekend he will be 1st in line for some big cash payouts.

The world rankings: SA Players in top 200

SA have 10 players in the top 100, which is a impresive stat…and only the USA have more players in the top 60 than us. This is excelent and the best part is…there is more SA guys coming!
