France, you’re up!!!

November 13, 2009 in Uncategorized

When I found out earlier this week that CJ van de Linde is back in the Bok squad, I got so excited.. When I read this morning article on the website that he might return to SA next year, I got even more excited (wonder if rassie has been in contact with him?? hmmm.. ) But then after all the excitement, I started wondering.. If CJ can play for the Boks on this tour, why cant Jean & Francios “60 metre a formality” Steyn play for the Boks too? The jury is still out on Adi for me & playing him at 12 is even more risky.. Prince Charming Olivier would’ve been a better bet but as brilliant season he’s had with the Bulls, he never showed that form when playing for Boks. Yes, he didn’t get lotsa chances & yes when he did start, it wasn’t with the Boks fully strength 15 but the guy hasn’t even shown glimpses of type of rugby we use to seeing Jean playing. Having said that, it would’ve been beneficial for to start this game along side Fourie &  the rest of the 1st team Boks. Lets hope for the future of the centre positions he makes some noice when he gets the chance to play tonight coz for me, Adi is not the answer. Zane deserves to start tonight & I hope he makes the most of it playing along side JP & Habana (probably the best wing tandem when it comes to following up kicks). But Steyn will still be missed yet having the other Steyn there will help soften the blow.

I’m kinda worried about tonight.. n maybe that’s a good thing, coz lets face it, we don’t know which French team will pitch up tonight: The one that can beat us without even looking like they’re trying or the one that can lose against Boland & the Leopards.

But I’ve also got this quiet confidence that the Boks should have enough to win coz when you look at that squad, we either have one of the best or the best combinations or players.. In the frontrow, Bismark should be regarded as the world’s best hooker. Locks? Bakkies & Matfield, enough said.. In the backrow, Brussouw, currently the best fetcher in the world (jus ask the Lions, Richie & George) Halfbacks? Fourie, the best player in the world let alone his position. Morne Steyn must be under the top 3 flyhalves in the world. Centres? Jaque Fourie’s only competition has to be a “getting old” O Driscol & NZ’s Conrad Smith. Back 3? Can you think of better wingers?

So its obvious we have the team, we have the players & the Springboks finished they’re winter in the best forms they’ve (arguably) ever been.

Last year we ended our drought in New Zealand..
