Jake’s the man – But not for my Superbru!!

Brumbies real contenders

The Brumbies victory on Friday over the Hurricanes surely proof that they are legitimate contenders for the Super title this year. This is something I would not have imagined a few weeks ago. As so many other teams the Brumbies have also been hit by frequent injuries and if we consider that they didn’t start off with big name players in their squad in the beginning of the campaign they have definitely performed well above expectation. Apart from the fact that they have been screwing up my Superbru predictions regularly, none more so that this weekend (costing me the GSP), they have been punching above their weight time and time again. Although I don’t believe that they can really win the tournament I will be very nervous if my team finished 6th on the log and are on their way to face the Brumbies in their own backyard. As far as I am concerned the Brumbies will win the Aussie conference. Like him or not, Jake White seems to know what he is doing.

Bulls Stumbling

Last week someone published an article, can’t recall who the author was, about the Bulls possibly being the first team from South Africa to make a clean sweep of their tour. Now, I am not a Bulls fan and this has nothing to do with the Bulls or their fans but to even think let alone write something like that before any team even arrives on New Zealand soil is totally ridiculous. The old story of counting your chickens before they hatch comes to mind. The Bulls really struggled to get going and it seems that they only started playing in the last 10 minutes of the game. The Highlanders however wasn’t keen on giving up their lead and held out for a somewhat surprising victory. Next week the Bulls face the Chiefs and as a Stormer supporter I am not sure who I will be supporting.

Stormers Worries

For the umpteenth time as a Stormers supporter I have to convince myself a win is a win. Again the Stormers lost the second half by 10 points to 3. What are these guys doing at half time? Do they know rugby is played over 80 minutes? Now, I don’t want to sound ungrateful, I mean 10 wins out of 11 is pretty amazing but I can’t help but feel we are on a downward curve. Raymond said it beautifully on the Sport24 article this morning:

First quarter ~ 1 cigarette and a glass of red wine
Second Quarter ~ 1 cigarette and a glass of red wine
Third Quarter ~ 5 cigarettes and finished the bottle
Fourth Quarter ~ finished the packet of cigarettes and a lot of whiskey (neat)
Geez, my health can’t take much more of the third quarter slump.

This weekend the Stormers travel to Durban to face a rampant Sharks team. Now I really need the points on Superbru. So do I go with my head or my heart?

  1. Hahahaha..us Bulls supporters can’t even start drinking in the last 10 minutes!

  2. Jake made my week on Superbru!!!! Just like Kirsten did to the Indian team, this man is doing for the Brumbies! Salute!

  3. Heart…head..heart …head…toss the coin….Personally I think Stormers have the edge but, they might not last 80minutes vs the Sharks…going to be a tough call….

  4. Go with the Sharks
